BASAL CELL CARCINOMA (BCC) TREATMENT

Basal Cell Carcinoma (BCC) treatment options include Photodynamic Therapy, MOHS Surgery, and Topical Creams. These methods effectively target and remove cancerous cells while preserving surrounding healthy tissue. The choice of treatment depends on factors such as the size and location of the BCC lesion.

Mohs Surgery

MOHS surgery is an effective treatment for Basal Cell Carcinoma (BCC) as it precisely removes cancerous tissue while preserving healthy skin. Layers of BCC-affected skin are removed and examined under a microscope until no cancer cells are detected, ensuring thorough eradication with minimal damage to surrounding tissue.

Surgical Excisions

Wide Local Excision is a common treatment involving the precise removal of the cancerous lesion and a margin of healthy tissue. This method ensures complete eradication of the cancer cells and offers a high cure rate for localized BCC lesions. Additionally, it allows for a thorough examination of the removed tissue to confirm the absence of cancer cells, providing peace of mind for both patients and clinicians.

Photodynamic Therapy

Photodynamic therapy (PDT) is a non-invasive treatment. It involves applying a photosensitising agent to the BCC lesion, followed by exposure to light to destroy cancer cells. PDT is ideal for superficial BCC lesions and offers minimal scarring and good cosmetic outcomes.

Topical Creams

Topical creams offer a convenient and non-invasive treatment option by directly targeting cancer cells on the skin’s surface. Applied over several weeks, creams like imiquimod or fluorouracil stimulate the body’s immune response or directly destroy cancer cells, which is particularly effective for superficial BCC lesions or those in challenging areas. They provide minimal discomfort and good cosmetic outcomes.

Freezing Spray

Freezing spray, or cryotherapy, is a straightforward treatment for Basal Cell Carcinoma (BCC). Liquid nitrogen is applied to the BCC lesion, freezing and destroying the cancer cells. This quick outpatient procedure offers minimal recovery time and is ideal for superficial BCC lesions or those in challenging areas.

Yes, skin cancer can be curable, especially if detected and treated early. The chances of cure depend on factors such as the type of skin cancer, its stage, and the treatment approach used. Early detection through regular skin examinations and prompt treatment are crucial in improving the chances of cure for skin cancer.
Basal Cell Carcinoma (BCC) can manifest in various forms, including nodular, superficial, infiltrative, and pigmented. Each type presents with distinct characteristics and may require different treatment approaches.
Basal Cell Carcinoma (BCC) commonly occurs in areas of the body that are frequently exposed to the sun, such as the face, head, neck, and hands. However, it can also develop in other body parts, including the trunk, arms, and legs.

Thankyou so much to Dr Kreeshan for my treatment. He made me feel at ease and explained the procedure amazingly. I have healed so well and it’s only day two. And also to my wonderful nurse Suzanne. She let me hold her hand when I was scared during treatment and her kind, warm nature helped me massively. She is incredible at her job.
